Hi,

I just relocated in Houston, would like to go to the Houston offical DMV website for new driver's license info. But when I google "houston DMV", there is non offical DMV website, the closest is a private website.

Anyone can provide me the website address is greatly appreciated.

In Texas, drivers licenses are handled by DPS (Dept of Public Safety) and it is a state office. You can find all you need to know including local branches at their website (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/dlindex.htm - broken link).

Correct. The term "DMV" is a Kalifornia thing I guess. Ours are handled by the DPS. Look for your local Department of Public Safety office.

Naw...we called it DMV back east up and down the coast in every state as well as Nevada and Utah that I know of.

I think Texas is the only place who calls it DPS. I also think Texas is the only state where you pay for registration and plates at a county tax office rather then the DPS/DMV. In Texas once you get your drivers license you will never again have to visit the DPS offices. I like that. Anyone who ever had to take a day off and sit for 6 to 8 hours in a DMV office just to get license plates knows what Im talking about.

Actually, it seems to be about evenly split between DMV and DPS.

These days you don't even have to visit a county tax office, just do it online or by mail. Many grocery stores handle registration renewals as well. The only time you have to visit the tax office is when you need new plates (is it every 7 years?) or don't renew by the deadline.
