I am also looking to sod my yard, and I want to do it myself. Where can I buy my sod for 14 cents per square foot? I can't find anything online that quotes prices.

I don't know the name of the business that I went to, it changed names, but it is the business that sells sod on 59 and Beltway 8, the Southwest corner of those intersections. This was about 8 years ago now, but I don't think prices have gone up that much.

Like I said in my previous post, I paid for the expensive sod, Paspalum which looks like Bermuda. I would think St. Augustine will be much less, almost half that cost. Most sod should not be more than 50 cents a sq ft., much less in fact.

There is also a sod farm off of 529 and 362 in far West Katy/Brookshire. I don't know the name, but you can drive that way and find it. Heading West, on 529 it will be on your right.

I have the same grass on my lawn:

Garden Center has the 2'x2' size for 77 cents. If your yard is small, do it yourself. Lay it down and water at least 45 minutes a day for an entire week.

I have a standard-sized Houston back yard, and the landscape guys doing my neighbor's yard down the street looked at it and gave me a quote of $1100. I also priced it with another company and he came in at $1300 (but he was also going to trim a couple of trees).

These prices were turnkey---leveling, layer of composted topsoil, St. Augustine carpet.

I'm figuring I'm going to the sod farm out in Brookshire, bring it back on pallets, and have a couple of loads of topsoil dropped in the driveway, then off to Home Depot for a couple of laborers to help me put it in. That, by my calculations, would come in at $700 or so. Not that much cheaper, but $400 is $400....

Default $400.00

I hate to give you more "work" ideas, but with that extra $400 savings, perhaps you might buy a shovel, PVC, connectors, timer, heads, PVC cleaner, and glue, and put yourself in a watering system before you lay sod. Now would be the time to do it, you will be glad you did!

You mean Houston Garden Centers?

That's a good price but I seriously can't stand that business.

Ok, let's break this down. Are you in a subdivision with single family homes or will your house be a duplex/townhouse? If you are in a standard house that "55" number is the width of your lot. Typically you will have either a 7' or 14' utility easement on your back property line. Going with a 7' easement that gives you 385s.f. right off of the bat. I would guarantee you have more than 260s.f.. Can you give us anymore info? There is a serious error somewhere if you are being charged 1200$ for 260s.f. of sod. Heck, I will come over and sod it for you for half that!
