Yes, my boss from MDA (I left just over a year ago) told me there is a freeze, but didn't give a timeline on it. I don't know the last time something like this has happened there.

Unless he has a signed offer it ain't happening. The docs need to start seeing more patients and taking less clinic days off. (Gee, what a concept.)

Yes, well, thank your for your note of encouragement. Just FYI--people ARE still getting hired--it's up to the Departments individually to determine whether or not it is financially beneficial, that's all.

Ummm..actually it's not. I work at MDA (I'm sorry..did you say you did? ) and I have been trying to add staff for some time-- and my department makes money.

Just "FYI" the only positions that are open are vacant RN positions. All hiring must be approved from the VP-level offices. I can assure you it is not up to the individual departments.

Yeah, um, actually, my husband is employed with MDACC and has been since 1994, so yeah, I think I do know a little about what's going on there. The departments do have to get VP approval, but I have the letter right here in my hand, so if you'd like to dispute what I'm saying perhaps you'd like to send me a DM and we can discuss it further.

Good luck finding staff for your department.

I understand that the freeze will be thawed for hiring of grant personnel, since their salaries will be covered by the grants.

I would really like to work there

I don't know anything about the pharmacy department, sorry.

There was a very interesting story going around the hospital today. It's pretty crazy, unconfirmed, but has to do with T. Boone Pickens' donations and his "direction" of them in the stock market. Let's just say if what we're hearing is correct, MD Anderson is in a boatload of financial trouble right now, at least, on the clinical side of things. Next Monday's "presidential address" by Mendelsohn should prove to be interesting. We'll see.

If you go to the MD Anderson website, there are NO jobs posted, not even for nurses.

I used to work at MD Anderson( resigned in 1/09) and I know for a fact that as people left, they weren't being replaced. Departments are suffering and while I was there, Mendelson's state of the hospital addresses were getting more grim.
