Yup it is pretty close. Me and the wife to be made it to downtown in a little under 15 minutes during a Monday mid-afternoon. When I drive to work it is during non rush hours so it will be a pretty short drive for me. There are times that I will use the metro and that is around a 5 minute drive from Fall Creek.

Have you looked at Spring Trails? My realtor loved it -- may be on the far end of your 30 minute time frame, but the area is nice, new schools, and a wonderful community feel. We're in the Woodlands and staying here, but it's a long commute for the DH (45 minutes at 6am).

i live 30 min from downtown in Porter, and best of all, i do not pay Harris county taxes and insurance premiums. 200-300k would buy you a damn mansion in my neighborhood. i have 1.5 acres and 1600 ft house for 110k, lots of woods, lots of privacy

Wait now, everyone sells Kingwood here as one of the better commutes and Porter's just past that. Maybe not 30 minutes, no, but an hour? Maybe if there's a wreck or something.

I have a brother in Kingwood, I have driven out there quite a few times. Yeah, Porter would EASILY be an hour.

Maybe it is just me, but I seem to notice a lot of times people really shave off commute times. Often times quoting just the "freeway time" and not how long it takes to even get to the freeway, and back off again to your destination.

To be fair I probably drive out that way the least often. It's been awhile.

And you're definitely right about people just mentioning freeway time, especially when it involves huge subdivisions that are themselves a mile or two across.

My aunt lived in Porter and it would take us almost 2 hours to get to her house from Hobby. After you get off the frwy it was a long way into the wooded neighborhood she lived in.
And, I lived in Kingwood for two years and the commute to DT was awful. I hear it is better now but no way 30 mins unless it is at 3am. Esp after you drive all the way out of Kingwood and get on the frwy. That alone takes over 15mins.
