I've had some stuff disappear in the mail, the last thing being one of those Discover ''cash back'' gift cards. I've also noticed it can take 5 days for the water bill to run across Clear Lake. To be safe you have to mail off your bills 7 days before it is due if it's local, and 10 days if it is going out of town.

Sent a birthday card to my dad last week for his Thanksgiving birthday. My kids drew him a picture that we added to the card. Took 3 days to get from Texas to Michigan. Only had to travel 30 feet to a package drop off location. Total cost was 44 cents. Show me where a private run business can beat that?

Personally, I've had more problems with UPS than the postal service. Last Christmas, UPS delivered a large box of diet food to my house by mistake. I didn't recognize the address on the package, so I called them 3 times and left the package on my doorstep for a few weeks... they never bothered to pick it up. Finally put it in a donation box. Had it been the USPS, I guarantee it would have been picked up the next day.

I can order goods from Dallas at 4:00pm, and receive them the next day through UPS. Beat that if you can.
