My child is currently in a private school for children with learning disabilities but due me being laid-off, I may not be able to afford the tuition next year. Are there any good public schools in the Houston area for a dyslexic child? Our lease is up in August so we can pretty much move anywhere around the Houston area (i.e. Katy, The Woodlands, Clear Lake). Any help would be great. Thanks.

I would touch base with Neuhaus off Bellaire. They are a great resource for Dsylexia and can give you a run down on what districts are best for these students. They also have a list of Neuhaus trained tutors in your area. My son is above level after going thru the entire training and now loves to read and can easily compensate for his dyslexia. We have had a great experience with Katy ISD. I have two boys on the autism spectrum, so I don't know if their dyslexia program is good or not. However, I can tell you that they have thoroughly tested both of my boys, and came up with a highly individualized program for both of them. They are at two different schools so I have worked with different groups of administrators and teachers. At the last ARD meeting, they gave us additional services that we did not even ask for. The meetings were also very positive, and I felt well treated. I am sorry that someone else is having a bad experience.

Hello,
My daughter is in 4th grade, she has be diagnosed with dyslexia and I am trying to find a public school that will service her. She is now in a public school but gets very frustrated with the pressure of TAKS preparation and class assignments that is too over whelming for her. She has began to bite herself to prevent her from crying in class. Please share any suggested schools in the Northeast area of town.

would this be spring branch school district? If so, do they have a good dyslexia program for high school. My son was in private school in elementary and we decided to main stream him for junior high. We have had a bad experience with HISD.
