I just read on a Houston real estate blog that Hollywood video at Montrose/Westheimer closed suddenly. I was just there getting videos 3 or 4 days ago and there was no sign of any issues. In fact they finally convinced me to sign up for their powerplay program!

I can't get over there anytime soon to see if there is a note on the door. I called another store and they had no idea this happened. Does anyone know what we do with our videos and how we cancel or powerplay memberships?

I am in total shock about this!

Maybe this is something I can check out here in a little bit as I'm headed in that general direction. You mean the Hollywood Video inside the old movie theater and not the old Blockbuster actually at the intersection of Montrose/Westheimer (in the same building as Half Price Books) that has been closed for awhile, right?

Right. So I'll go see for myself.

The Powerplay membership wouldn't be good at another Hollywood Video?

Movie rental places are going bust everywhere. I guess their time has come and gone. they use to be crowded, now when I go, I'm often the only customer in the store. ---Like back when they charged by the minute for the Internet.

Default Hollywood Video on Westheimer/Waugh closed

I stopped by this location Saturday morning and it is in fact closed. There's a sign on the door saying the real estate co. had changed the locks for failure to pay rent. You can look inside and see ALL the merchandise -- DVDs, food, etc. -- is gone. I was there Tuesday to rent and there was no indication of anything wrong. From what I can find, it happened suddenly either on or before Thursday the 19th. Calling the phone number listed on the DVD rental box rings unanswered, it's not forwarded to another location. So the question is, what do we do with the DVDs we rented?

"Extended viewing" without late fees?

Well, you beat me to it because I just got in from being around there and I checked it out. There's a bunch of boxes just on the floor inside.

Failure to pay rent, huh? Doesn't sound like Hollywood's doing too well.

So it now joins the old Alabama theater in being vacant.

I hope someone can find some use for these old landmarks, I would sure hate to see them torn down.

They tear down way many landmarks in this town just to build more strip centers! It is the one thing I HATE about Houston.
Hopefully a cool shop or restaurant will take the spot.
