I hate how lots of our highways are elevated; I think Houston could use more tunnels and lower freeway.

I was watching this video the other day:

YouTube - Atlanta, GA Downtown Freeways at Night

It would be really nice driving through the Uptown area looking up at the skyline, especially at night

However, its easier for ATL because it's really hilly there unlike Houston which is flat.

I was going to say that Houston's low elevation would make tunnels impractical. It might take weeks to pump them dry after a hurricane.

Don't sell elevated freeways short. Having spent most of my life in the midwest and a year in the lake-effect snow region of NY, I always marvel at the number of elevated ramps and the extent of their elevation in the south. Up north, where tunnels prevail, those elevated ramps would have to close frequently due to icy conditions. Elevation is really an elegant solution.

My thing with it is, is that it's too many. On top of that we get Toll roads and entrances to HOV lanes. However, I like them because they give you great views of the city.

OMG, hello? Allison...? Anyone? *clueless look*

We're 43 feet above sea level (downtown). Where would you like to put these tunnels?

That's so gross. You'd think the rain water would do the opposite & wash it all out fresh & clean. I'd have to think of some sort of massive outside air freshener system to mask that! Or keep something smoking on the BBQ 24/7.

I wasn't really talking about just building random tunnels all over the place. I just though it would be nice if 610 perhaps was lowered running through the Uptown area. Something similar to how 288 is once inside the loop.
