I am seriously contemplating moving to TX in about 2 years (I have a lease that will be up then). I do not want to live in a big city (moved from Philadelphia to FL to get away from that, but now FL is too expensive to own, at least where I'm at). My husband refuses to live in a part of TX that gets cold enough to have snow. People have recommended to live in League City.
I was wondering if I could get other recommendations, or just more about League City. We would like not a flood zone, good school districts (I have 2 kids), affordable housing, great neighborhoods...and I am a teacher and my husband is a city mailman, so any on-going job opportunities would be great. Thanks!

We're also considering a move to Texas and coincidently League City was our first choice....we've visited 3 times and we still love it there...especially where it borders Kemah. Check out the thread: Another California considering a move to Texas. Lot's of good info. With your regards to flooding, I think were pretty much at the mercy of mother nature where ever your at in Houston. Good Luck, maybe we'll be neighbors someday.

Howdy..!!!

League City and anything close to the Coast is nice but think about Hurricane season...!!!! Those areas are in the direct hit path and are also flooding areas, my advice will be living in the West side of Houston (Katy) or Northwest.

Check this map:

I live in Katy by the way but the commute is a *****...!!!

I lived in Houstonfor years and have family there. Floods do happen there, even with a normal down pour, the streets are flooded. I have had family who have lost thier belongings due to flooding over the years there. It is important to look into areas that specifically say they are not in a flood plain. Just keep that in mind. Also I have lived there and there has been ice in the winter but it is rare and doesn't happen every winter. Houston is cold enough to having a nice warm jacket or coat as well. I was living in central Florida up till last year for a few years and Florida is by farmuch warmer than where we lived in Houston. Florida has it's cold snaps and so does Houston but we never got ice where we lived in Florida and we never had to buy heavy jackets living where did in Florida as well. I would say too to look more into South Texas if you are worried about the weather being cold and could snow. On the positive side, Houston is a progressive area with lots to do. It is also diverse and very nice. We enjoy going down to visit there. My favorite area there is the Woodlands. I have family in Tomball, Waller, Copperfield, Baytown and Webster.

Houston in and of itself has a lot of character. Just as you said, League City & Clear Lake etc. are very similar to Florida...while other parts have their own unique character. This town has lots to offer.

Born and raised on south end of Houston, near League City. Although, not as attractive as many other southern cities, it IS a great city with a lot to offer. Considering recent hurricane "challenges" with evacuation, etc, I would advise any newcomer to not move to the southern part of Houston. If I were considering schools, flooding, etc., I would stay north of Houston for easier evacuation, "less" flooding, etc. Really do your homework and know that going through a bad flood situation puts tremendous stress on a family, on finances, etc. Good luck and we are looking forward to welcoming you to our home.
