How reliable is public transportation ?

Are the many jobs in the Warehousing industry and where are most located?

Not really. You really need a car to live in Houston.

You would be well advised to have a job lined up before you arrive in Houston. The unemployment rate is fairly high in Houston right now, just slightly lower than the national average.

I second that -- do not come here without a job unless you have 6 months to 1 year of living expenses covered in savings. Thankfully I am not one of the many who have lost their job in the past year or two, but I have been searching for a new job for the past 3-4 months. I have submitted probably 15 applications and only received one call. Unfortunately, the pay was not up to par with what I currently make. Prior to 2008 it was very easy for me to find gainful employment here.

Public transportation is virtually non-existent.

Don't move to Houston without a job.

Don't move especially if your looking for warehouse type jobs...may have a better shot for that in Oklahoma City. Lots of transport stuff there.

I agree with everyone....DO NOT, under any circumstances, move to Houston, TX, Houston Ak, or Houston Al without a job or unless you have one to two years living expenses that you are to live on until you find a job....Houston does not have a subway system like other major cities...the Metro bus system is garbage, so you will need a car here, and fyi, it better have a working air conditioning......

while the national press has been praising the state of Texas for all of the "jobs" that we have here, the local people havent seen it......there are pockets of specialized jobs in Oil, Gas, Energy, Medical and transportation(ship channel, truck drivers, etc)...but, thousands of people have lost their jobs here in education, NASA, city and county government and public servants like police and fire fighters, so just keep that in mind

I'd imagine that warehousing jobs would be very hard to come by, and you'd have to compete with illegal aliens ("undocumented nationals" blahhhhh). They'll probably always be given priority since they keep quiet - usually can't speak English.

Also, you'll have to contend with much more humidity - being so close to the coast - than you would in Atlanta. So it will be a heavier heat, and higher heat index.
