If you were able to find a good job opportunity here, I'd say do it.
For the most part, Houston has improved in almost every way since then. I wasn't here in the mid-90's, but the revitalization started to happen around the time I arrived just about a decade ago. Things were on the up-and-up until the little setback from Al Gore's big mouth, hurricane Katrina, some illegal immigration issues, and now the economy (though Houston's doing better than most other places.)

When would I ever expect it?
It happens almost every time like clockwork with the same people when a "question about <insert suburban community>" thread comes up.

Sorry, but not "when" but "what."

It is in some cases about physical location. Living inside the Loop, is like living in the eye of a Hurricane. During the day, there is little traffic. In the afternoon, everybody is haulin it outside the loop to get home. Here, it is quiet enough to pass the football in the street. I can see the gridlock of I-10 in the Morning and the afternoon from my place. and I just smile. Life is good Down town. ---But I don't ride the toy train to no where.

The FM 1960 area has seriously declined.

And the city as a whole is unfortunately starting to look more like Mexico these days.
