Hello All,
I am quite new to this site, but I'm in need of some recommendations/suggestions.

After visiting twice, my husband and I are considering making Houston our home. So here are somethings I feel we need some local responses to.....

IYO, where are the BEST school districts? Primarily elementary schools, but if there's an area where all 3 are GREAT...even better!

A friendly and diverse neighborhood [by this I mean a melting pot, a multitude of ethnic variations...white, black, red, yellow, polka dotted, etc.]....Children get along so well, and I hope that wherever we choose to reside will offer that "neighborly" charm.

Oh and any recommendations for great hospitals? I'm in the healthcare field. I don't mind commuting. I lived in NY for over 12 years and had a 90 minute commute to/from work!

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Sugar Land - good schools and a medical complex at Highway 99 and 90.

Also, Cypress - Cy-Fair schools and close to the medical complex at 1960 and 290.

The big Medical Center is just south of downtown - and homes are more expensive unless you go to Pearland.

Houston is a melting pot - period. We don't have much of a polka-dot population, however. Please don't think less of us.

Hi! I'm familiar with your questions since we went through it not too long ago. We moved to Houston from NJ less than 2 years ago and had to do some research before we came out here.

Although I don't have any info on local schools (my daughter is still an infant), I would suggest Sugarland or Pearland. We currently live in the downtown/med center area and while it is diverse, it is nowhere near NY/NJ. We have found Houstonians to be friendly overall but can seem standoffish if you're new to the area.

I cannot imagine living in NJ again after being here for a couple years now. The quality of life is different....life seems to have slowed down a bit....which is just what we were looking for after commuting into NY for years. If you decide to move to Houston, I would suggest coming out a few times to see the area and also asking questions on forums like this. Good luck!

From what you describe, I have an excellent area for you. On the West side of Houston, there are the Greentrails, Crystal Lake, and Windsor Park Lakes subdivisions. In these communities you have everything you need, the three schools assigned are excellent, Pattison Elementary, McMeans Middle School, and Taylor High School, all three schools are in the Katy School District. These three communities are very close to Hospitals, the ones in Katy, and the one in Memoral city just a few miles east.

Clear Creek ISD, always among the best overall districts.

Clear Lake Regional Medical Center - An HCA Houston Hospital

You could work 10-15 mins away from home.

Just make sure you research low-lying areas being close to the water and all.
