I can't see the comparison between Dallas and Houston. Nearly everyone I know felt like a stranger passing through Dallas and the city didn't have a "city feel" but more like an upscale, snotty business district. I get a very different impression of Houston from what I've heard thus far. But yes, if Houston is anything like Dallas I don't think I would move there.

What happened to the "popular saying" that Houston is like Austin only bigger and more ethnically diversified?

You shouldn't have a problem then. Houston should be just fine for you.

I've never seen it that way. Not in the least bit.

I just meant if s/he doesn't like sprawling cities, s/he won't like Houston. I was unclear whether s/he understood that Houston was a sprawling metropolis like Dallas. (Sorry, I know you hate that... "like Dallas"... I guess you're right, it's not exactly like DFW though. It's not the hugely ginormous neverending METROPLEX that DFW is.

Why don't some of you get off the freeway so you can see the 'real' Dallas? I live close-in and never use them.

This is true for anywhere south of Downtown Dallas. North of DT Dallas, it is more of the same old, same old on into Plano, Allen, then McKinney.

I've seen it, and I like Dallas itself. Parts of it are very pretty. I miss Lower Greenville, East Dallas, and Deep Ellum. That area near where Lee Harvey Oswald was shot at that theatre? I forgot the name of it, but I like it, it's hilly, if memory serves. Parts of downtown are nice. It's some of the other cities in the Metroplex I don't know about, except Ft. Worth, which is nice enough, too. Great zoo and neat little downtown area, IIRC. (It's been a while.)

I've always like Fort Worth more than Dallas, though. I love living on this side of the Metroplex. It even feels a little more "relaxed".
