I'm getting a job at the San Jacinto College North Campus, which is located around the Channelview and Clover Leaf area. I don't want to commute more than a half hour, and I'd like to avoid paying tolls. I'm looking for a residential area that has great public schools and doesn't have a "big city" feel. Any suggestions?

Summerwood seems to be a nice area. If you go a bit North of that, you can go near Fall Creek. Both are on the Sam Houston Parkway, so there are currently no tolls on that section of Beltway 8.

There are some nice communities around the North Shore Hs football Stadium, you should take a look and see for yourself. I think it's called New Forest

Default Health?

Have you considered health as a factor? Channelview, Pasadena and those areas are not the best due to manufacting and refining and their pollutants. Remember that the area receives a Southern breeze most of the year except for Winter where the winds shift out of the North. Any area North of Pasadena will have more airborne pollutants I would think.

Deer Park, Parts of La Porte, Seabrook. Barbours Hill would be the only things I could recommend around Pasadena fitting that commute unless you go up 59. All of these areas have some nice homes. To me La Porte has the best small town feel, there are a lot of festivals and fairs thoughout the year that are enjoyable, but I would say their school systems are the weakest of this bunch, however they do have some good schools in the town. Good luck with your search!
