its underrated for houstonians, overrated to everyone else because its always a far 2nd, a far 3rd, a far 4th etc placer when being compared to the #1. houston also brags too much about size, quantity and its "ranking", almost never about quality and truly enjoyable experiences.
judge for yourself
Facts about Houston, Texas
the whole thing is a fact sheet for any outsider who wants to nickle and dime houstonians, houston is just being marketed as a customer base. noone really cares for the people's quality of living. the whole plan is to keep it cheap and grow the numbers (people or squarefootage, whichever works)

Couldn't disagree more...

I dont think its underrated at all...

Houston tends to lack the vibe and doesn't attract the young crowds that other large cities do. It seems that almost every spot in Houston has at least a 50%+ population that is 30+....

Don't know about you but 30+ is hardly the young and energetic crowd.

I've heard so,e bad things about Houston's nightlife that I found out to be not true. I've heard that AA club scene is on Atlanta's scale or is slightly better. That's basically the good news I've heard about Houston's nightlife.

I've also heard that Houston's nightlife is garbage compared to Miami's.

Even though the article was published in 2008, here's what it says:

3. Houston
Houston is proof that everything is indeed bigger in Texas. While better known for its big business and energy interests, this sprawling city also hosts top-notch orchestra, opera, and ballet companies, a dynamic theater scene, great museums, and the world-renowned NASA Space Center. Shopping reigns supreme here — you'll find a huge concentration of shops and above-par outlet malls — and its cosmopolitan restaurant scene expands upon the state's traditional Tex-Mex offerings. Bold and impressive architecture helps define the cityscape, too — including the mammoth Astrodome — making this fourth-largest U.S. city a true star in the Lone Star State.

I remember what people in Houston were doing when Hurricane Rita hit and what happened to the city when Hurricane Alice? hit...I'm surprised that it still relatively cheap being flood and hurricane prone...
