The first and only soundstage in WV.

Huntington gets soundstage, could become hub - GrafWV.com

Quote:
"We have a couple of scripts and we are entertaining some feature films to be shot and produced in their entirety in Huntington," said Joe Murphy, president of Trifecta Productions. "We don't want to get anybody too excited, but that is on the horizon, as well as scripted and unscripted series and concepts."

This could lead to big things, no doubt about that. Look at how the movie industry has influenced the Wilmington, NC area.

Lets hope the State will offer some tax incentives so that we can compete with places like Wilmington and Louisiana to lure productions.

Did I miss where it was mentioned in the story, but where is the soundstage located?

The soundstage is located inside the former WOWK TV building.

Story today in the H-D that Kindred Communication will be the main tenant in the old WOWK buidling. Also WOWK will be holding onto a few offices in the building and as mentioned earlier in this thread, the new sound stage with Trifecta Productions.

Good post aeros. I saw that article over the weekend. Hopefully The Coal Exchange building is next in line for renovations. It would be perfect for apartments/condos geared toward students, professors and young professionals. That could help spur even more downtown development.

Here's the part from the article most important to this thread:

Quote:
Space will be leased to other tenants besides Kindred, including WOWK-TV. Within the past year, West Virginia Media moved most of its Huntington WOWK-TV operations to its new Charleston office, but it still has offices on the ground floor of the Kindred building.

Trifecta Productions also has offices and a studio there, growing from 1,800 feet in their former space in the Morris Building to about 2,500 square feet in the Kindred facility. That includes a large sound stage that already has attracted national interest from the film industry, Kirtner said.

That space also is expected to be used for live performances and broadcasts of musical groups, such as gospel groups, he said.

There's a lot of potential on several fronts, and he's happy it's going on in Huntington.

"West Virginia is having a rebirth, and people want to be here," Kirtner said. "Things are changing, and I'm glad I'm apart of that."
By trying to hurt Huntington, intentionally or inadvertently, Bray Carey may have done us a big favor. Unfortunately he is ruining most of the stations that he has taken over and may end up costing more jobs in the long run.

With all the downsizing in the radio industry, its nice to see Kindred Communication bucking that trend and keeping jobs local. I'm not sure if this business plan is viable in the long run, but its great to see a business wanting to keep things local and keeping jobs.
