We have been here for a few months. Came here from Northern Virginia. We loved Dynasty in the Springfield area. It was what I call great chinease! Haven't had any great chinease since being here in Alabama. Does anyone have suggestions? I really do not like the one on Madison Blvd, or on 72 in Madison. Not good at all! I am not looking for a PF Changs. That is nice, but we like the authentic places, not chains. Thanks!!

I've never figured out why we don't have decent Chinese food. We have good Thai (Surin, Phuket, Charm Thai, Thai Garden are all good IMO), good Vietnamese (I like the one next to HHGregg, haven't tried the other)...but we don't have any good Chinese IMO. Definitely not anything authentic.

"educated1" said "chinease." Anyway, I really don't know enough to know whether Chinese food is authentic or not. But I happen to really like the Ding How over next to Fresh Market on Whitesburg.

Default Try Mandarin House in Hampton Cove Area

My wife (who is Chinese, by the way) and I love the Mandarin House buffet in the Wal-Mart shopping center in Hampton Cove - especially for dinner and Sundays (crab legs, etc.). Reasonably priced and delicious food.

Yuck.

Buffet? Is anything at a buffet ever good? We went there. All the ambiance of a high school cafeteria.

They did have an ice cream service though.

I like China Cook a lot more, made to order and fresher tasting; it's next door to Public at Old 431 and 431.

Decatur has an EXCELLENT new Chinese restaurant, Fulin's. Kinda far I know, but it is not one of the buffets or take out places. Very nice ambiance and very good selection on the menu. I highly recommend.

Fulin's Asian Cuisine :: Hendersonville, Spring Hill, Brentwood, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Mt. Juliet, TN, Decatur, AL (http://fulins.com/index.html - broken link)

"Chinese" food -- depends on your flavor, the American Chinese food is greasy. Sichuan tend to be spicier. Cantonese are more "saucy" and compact. Mandarin food are more "snacky" than full course meals.

Pick a place -- look at the menu if it has Chinese calligraphy and there the patrons are Asian then it's a safe bet.

Unless you like the "Panda Express" type Chinese food

My daughter raves about that place, so my wife and I ate there a month or so ago, and our reaction was like Charles--yuck. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, so I'll try it one more time on a different night of the week.

I kind of liked the Panda, which used to be on University...closed for years. Haven't found a decent one since. But, living in San Francisco I think kind of ruined me for most Chinese restaurants...

...frankly, many of them in this area have been a little scary.

Sort of like Mexican food?

Trouble is, we don't get enough of either population to see a line form outside of a restaurants.
