Need advice for a late August trip from HSV to SFO. Right now the best fare is $470. Do any of you frequently fly from HSV to SFO? If so, what is a reasonable/good price?

BTW, Bing travel has a 80%+ chance of the fare going down.

Driving to BNA/BHM/ATL is not an option for this trip.

Bing has an 80% chance of it dropping?

Well airfares have already gone up 3 times this year alone, I can't imagine it will go down at all.

Gas may be settling back down, but airlines aren't gonna lower prices because of it.

$470 is high, but a lot cheaper than a last minute flight to ATL I wanted to take last month. $690!

I'd say buy it now, I can't imagine it would drop at all and even if it did it wouldn't be $100 or anything.

Thanks, but that's not how I roll when it comes to airfare. I'll be looking for it to get below 400.

It seems like airlines these days would rather let a seat go unsold or cancel a flight than lower ticket prices.

Are you dead set on leaving from HSV? Leave out of Nashville (BNA) and you can get it less than $$375 and as low as $300...

By the time you calculate gas, parking, traffic with the 4 hour round trip commute those savings are quickly evaporated. Not an option.

Its OK. I understand airfare prices are like a game of chicken. I can wait another month or two.

Well, parking is free now, they have buses that run from the parking area.

But, if you're in no hurry, I guess it is worth the wait?

The cheapest parking option at BNA is $7/day for the economy lot after using their $1 off coupon. Yes, shuttle buses run, but there is no free parking at BNA unless you are only parking for under 20 minutes in the short term lot.

I get you on the hassle of flying elsewhere, the price drop needs to be north of $200 to make it worth it.

But I still don't see how waiting a month or two is going to help?

Please update us when you do finally get your ticket, I want to know the final price.

Don't know if you have found a cheaper fare yet, but I've learned a few tricks over the years booking flights online. We usually fly from HSV to LAX.

1. Flights on a Wednesday is usually the cheapest, the next one is Saturday.

2. For some reasons unknown, prices are cheaper when you check online on a Tuesday.

3. If you are willing to risk it, wait until 4 - 5 days before the day you want to leave. You will notice the airfare is MUCH lower, if it is not sold out.

You can try out these premises with various online sites such as Orbits, Expedia, Priceline, etc. and play with different scenarios.

Good luck.
