I was checking out AL.com and came across this article:

Reader questions accuracy of gasoline pump in Gurley | al.com

It reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask for a while (like, 6 months) now: what happened to all the state certification stickers on the gas pumps in the area? I haven't seen one newer than 2010. I was gassing up at Kangaroo across from Target this morning and there were no stickers at all on the pump, just outlines where they used to be. Yet the article above says

Quote:
The Department of Agriculture Department's weights and measurements office inspects each gasoline pump in the state once a year to ensure the measurements are accurate
and

Quote:
The inspector places a sticker in the shape of the state on the pump after it passes inspection.
So what's going on? Because, I swear, I haven't seen a new sticker on any pumps in months

You'll have to do some looking, but it seems I'd heard some news report within the last couple of years that due to budget cuts they don't have near enough state inspectors to get around to the thousands upon thousands of gas pumps in the state on an annual basis.

Seems I saw a 2012 at Waters' in Meridianville a week or two ago...

For those of us who have to feed lawn equipment, it is pretty easy to place a mark on a five gallon gas can at the five gal. mark, and then fill to that mark. Or, fill the tank and then use that gas to put in in the vehicle tank.

Are you suggesting we crowd source the inspections?

Would you make your own stickers or just amend the old ones?

SOCIALISM!!

Interesting idea of making my own stickers. I could do that.

Me upset with socialism? You must have me confused with someone else. I've been saying for years that our insurances (a purely socialist concept) have been messed up by greedy sociopaths trying to take them capitalist. The original concept of a MUTUAL (policyholder owned) insurance company kept rates down for years and years and years. IMO, NO capitalist insurance company should ever be allowed. Other than that, and demanding single rates in healthcare so that those without insurance don't pay grossly inflated rates, the government could stay out. That way, all of us with for-profit capitalist businesses wouldn't end up subsidizing a messed up system.
