I'm relocating to the Huntsville area and am in search of a 1 br apartment, any suggestions? I've heard Athens is a nice, affordable place to live.

If you're working in Huntsville, living in Athens is a long drive from the west (aka facing into the sun at both rush hours).

Though speaking of driving into the sun by living in the west, the apartments along Slaughter Rd and Jeff Rd are nice. I've lived at Colonial Grand at Edgewater (2006-2008) and I'd call it mediocre at best for paying $1k per month.

I don't know about the niceness of the apartments behind the Target on University Dr, but their location is intriguing to me. As is the location of Monte Sano Terrace (which is a very old complex) as it's right across the street from the Land Trust (hiking trails that actually connect to the hiking trails in Monte Sano State Park.)

In my experience, a good apartment is one with good management, and you usually can't tell that until you're in there for a month or so.

I'd like to think it would be an upgrade from Eufaula. I wouldn't have to wear my cut-off blue jean shorts and Alabama ball cap to blend in with the norm.

Look up the crime statistics on that complex before you move in.

Where you would want to move all depends on where you work, how long of a drive you want, your budget, etc.

I left the area in 2006, but I preferred a house to rent in Athens and was comfortable in it. Prior to that I rented an apartment in Madison (Charleston Oaks on Kyser) and it was nice and well maintained.

If you are working on the west side of Huntsville or near Redstone, I think the area would work out nicely for you. If you have to travel to the east side, then the traffic will drive you nuts.

I lived at Ashbury Woods when I relocated to Huntsville and I loved it there. Not much traffic and right near grocery, restaurants, etc.

@MagnumMustache - I would look around Huntsville or the county line road area of Madison/Limestone. Madison proper is outrageously expensive for what you get and the water smells funny. Athens is a long commute given the traffic on Hwy 72 in Madison.

Monte Sano or anything SE Huntsville is affordable and safe.

Best of luck with your relocation.

I actually have Charleston Oaks on my list of complexes to check out, thanks for your response.

Thank you Streggae for your reply. But having grown up in a town notoriously known for bass fishing my whole life, I am no stranger to dirty, smelly water.
