Just so you know, most family Drs won't take new chronic pain patients if they need narcotics. They will refer you to tennessee valley pain or some place like that where you sign a pain contract. Too many abusers faking pain. It's too risky for them. My previous doc was verbally abused and threatened when she wouldnt prescribe to someone, so she quit taking new pain patients. If you need to go that route you'll probably have to go to a specialist.
The docs at TVP just do procedures and the nurse practitioners handle office visits, refer to PT, or other specialists, and prescribe meds.
I'm looking for a new PCP also, for the same reason you are. I called my current doc 2 weeks ago to try to get in for a sinus infection and ear ache and they didnt have any appointments for 3 days! When I do get in, the Dr spends less than 5 minutes with me, bolts out the door, then sends in a nurse to finish the conversation. It's like they only want to do annuals on basically healthy people! Whenever I have a problem I get referred to a specialist. It's to the point that I prefer to stay home and suffer and hope whatever is wrong doesnt get serious.
Good luck finding someone!

Mine is in Decatur... if you want to make the drive she's been good to me concerning pain mgmt but she has been cutting her office hrs a bit lately. I don't know if she's taking new patients or not. She usually does except no more medicaid/medicare patients.
