CBQ, I had several interracial couple (Black and Asian) friends back in Huntsville so you will not be alone.

In general, the Huntsville area 90% are transplanted from out of state due to the nature of workforce. I was told by the "native" that the area is too expensive for the locals and they all but moved out of city to where it's more affordable. I lived in Madison (excellent schools) and you can just see people from all over the world living here.

For the most part, the people I've met were all polite and well-spoken and very accepting (even the folks with missing teeth in convenient stores ). Many were ex-military (who are used to racial diversity) and decided to retired here. Unlike parts of LA where I get "angry stares" from Blacks (the "what are you doing here" look), I don't get them here, if you know what I mean.

I think you pick a good town to have your child to grow up.

Niche https://www.niche.com/k12/d/madison-city-schools-al/ rates Madison Schools #1 out of 136 districts in the state, which is pretty darn good. It's not huge - about 12,000 students and two high schools. If you wanted to go the private route, Randolph School (K-12) in Huntsville is tops (I think 2nd in the state), fairly expensive but outstanding. Madison Academy is a Church of Christ school and rates very well. There are also several other private schools, most of them parochial. If you live in Madison, you might as well save your money and use the public schools though. Huntsville Schools are generally pretty good, but highly dependent on location as you might expect in any larger city. They also have several magnet schools.

Houses are getting more expensive, and quite rapidly, but nothing near prices in Los Angeles and most of California, and really, most other areas around the country. Property taxes are relatively low.

Good luck! Most homes are going well above asking prices with multiple offers. Inventory is low and demand is high. Hopefully builders will build more houses because like in the baseball movie people are coming.

It is still MUCH cheaper than the LA housing prices. You can buy a mansion here for the price of buying a parking space in LA.
