Just wondering - are there any plans for a new Madison City fire station in Town Madison, or anywhere south of 565? There are quite a few residences in Edgewater and Mountain Brook, as well as a good deal of housing of some sort (single family, condos, townhouses), several hotels, and many businesses in Town Madison itself, and at some point soon over 1,000 apartment units. Seems like a fire station is needed since the closest is across from City Hall - several miles away.

Huntsville fire station on Martin Rd probably covers it, a lot of those areas are in Huntsville City Limits.

I don't know if there is a reproprocity agreement or not, but hopefully Huntsville would respond if needed. Still, the City of Madison needs to be able to cover their responsibility.

No, it does not cover the areas of Madison which are south of I-565. The City of Huntsville Police will drive through portions of Madison to reach the Huntsville annexed areas along Zierdt Rd. and Martin Rd. (ZipCode 35824), but they do not provide services. Huntsville Police drive through the Madison portion of Edgewater to reach the Huntsville portion.

The City of Madison website shows a Zone 4 Fire District, but they don't have a corresponding picture for the Fire Station for Zone 4 like they do for Zones 1, 2 and 3. Zone 4 is almost all of the neighborhoods south of the railroad tracks in the City of Madison, with the exception being the neighborhoods along Shelton Rd.

Here is the map of Madison's Fire Department Districts: https://www.madisonal.gov/151/District-Maps

It is almost like the southeastern portion of Madison is the "step child" of the City, because it is south of I-565, it's sort of "out of sight, out of mind."

Much like the Limestone CO portions of HSV.

The City of Huntsville has announced that they are building a fire station on Burgreen Rd., not too far south of 72 to cover the western annexed areas. HSV already has a fire station at the Greenbriar Rd. interchange - it is located near the entrance to the Target Distribution Center. It is understandable that the City would have a fire station located there considering that there is a huge amount of commercial tax base nearby - Amazon (two warehouses), Target, Polaris, GE Aerospace, and the granddaddy of them all - the Mazda/Toyota plant which is worth over $2 billion.

By contrast, the southern portions of Madison are heavily residential and Town Madison is not as commercial as it was originally promoted to be. In the early talks about TM, the anchors were to be Belk and Cabela's, so retail was going to be the driver which would have brought in a lot of tax revenue to cover fire protection and police services.

Perhaps a good reason for at least some metropolitan services - such as fire protection and police services.

The residential portions of HSV / Limestone CO has been pretty much ignored by the city. I've been to the fire station on Greebriar. It does me no good as it is even further away than my responding station which is Jeff / 72. It is nice to see that they are finally building the new station on Burgreen. That will be a big help. That said, we are still lacking schools and amenities such as parks. There isn't a single park in this part of HSV.

In the past I have seen in the city council meeting minutes where they talk of using the old Public Works facility on the south end of Celtic Drive as a station. In my weekend runs I have seen an engine parked there along with a crew. I assume they have converted this building into a temp station and that is how they are covering the south end of town for now. I would think at some point they would build a more permanent station, either at this site or south of 565.
