Well actually it makes it easier for them to ticket speeders as well. Without slow pokes cruising in the left lane, the ones that drive too fast do not have their speed impeded which results in them speeding consistently.

The laws for left lane cruising are actually a win win for police. They get to write left lane cruisers a ticket and also get to write more speeding tickets to those that get to speed more often.

Anyway, my biggest gripe on both highways like 431 as well as the interstates is people driving 5 miles an hour below the speed limit and causing a rolling road block. It is extremely infuriating.

Since we're complaining about driving habits, how about those who refuse to use signals when turning and changing lanes (both are state law requirements). And those on 565 east who see a line of traffic sitting still in the right hand lane, waiting to go south on the Parkway, but they go ahead, then try to squeeze in near the exit, or even worse, will stop dead still in the second lane over that's whizzing by at 70 mph.

Except that there is nothing in the code that says the left lane is for passing only. It states that vehicles moving slower than the normal traffic need to keep to the right. With that, if traffic in the right lane is moving at 60 MPH, and the left is moving at 65 MPH, there's nothing there that says the cars in the left lane need to move over for the yutz doing 80 (unless it has flashing lights on top, but that is a different section of the code).
Exactly this.

Those of you who want to be super legalistic, you know what's also the law?

Speed limits.

The yutz doing 80 is breaking the law.

Still, if I'm in the left lane and I see that yutz behind me and there's no one in front of me, I do move to the right. But when two dozen cars in front of me are (like me) driving 70 mph and right is going 65 (and the speed limit is 60), yutz has no legal highground to to think the whole highway should move out of his way just because he wants to do 82. There's a general traffic speed setting the context here.

As djmaxwell pointed out, re-read Section B.

Are there really mountains in the state of Alabama? Seriously? I have double-checked three times to be certain I am actually in the Alabama forum. I have driven across the state a number of times, but it was decades ago. Perhaps my memories of those drives are faulty, or my routes did not take me where the "mountains" are.

Depends on how you define "mountain". The highest point in the state is Mt. Cheatah, somewhere east of Birmingham, and is just under 2000 feet MSL. Monte Sano in Huntsville is around 1600-1700 (roughly 1000 feet above most of the surrounding area), and Mentone is a little resort town up around 1750. Wikipedia, the gold standard of definitions **, says that "A mountain is a large landform that stretches above the surrounding land in a limited area, usually in the form of a peak."

So, Alabama mountains are not Rocky Mountain mountains, but they're called mountains, and they loosely fit the Wikipedia definition, so I guess they must be.

Alabama's "mountains" are pretty much confined to the northeast quadrant.

Since you did not mention it, I wonder if you realize that the mountains in Alabama are the southernmost end of the Appalachian mountain range. (the second largest mountain range in the country) And no, mountains are not determined by height.
I don't know if the other post was smarmy, snarky, or just not very geographically/geologically educated, but it would be like someone in the Great Lakes region asking if they actually have lakes in California.
Of course, I realize that this is just the way CDF runs.

The whole paragraph applies, not just section B. Furthermore, regardless of what you want to say about the laws, it is not up to any of us to try and enforce the laws. If you choose to follow the law that is fantastic. But this means if the yutz coming up to overtake you gets to you, you yield the lane. When they pass, you can move back into the lane to continue passing. It doesn't matter what the people in front of you are doing. You yield. If they don't, that is a problem between the speeder and those people. It's not wise to get into the pack mentality while driving.

The law doesn't state that you only need to yield the lane if you are following the speed limit. So that point is really invalid. I try my best to follow the speed limits but I take no concern over how fast the people around me are going. If they come up to pass while I am passing, I complete my pass and yield the lane. The LEO's on the roadways can enforce the speed limits.

With regards to driving in the left lane, only paragraph B is relevant. Paragraph A deals with driving on the right side of the road and when it is OK to cross the center line. Paragraph C states that crossing the center line is prohibited when there are multiple lanes of traffic in each direction.
