It would be a poor fit there. Maybe great debates or current events. The debate is less about partisan politics than science. On a local level I'm pleased with the governor, mayors, and medical leaders.

Indeed, New Zealand has been doing an excellent job. Their rapid, early, and thorough response has been praised throughout the process. Even now they aren't letting their guard down entirely, and even they continue to take the threat seriously.

The US has been (and remains) a hot mess in comparison.

That blame is mainly on the citizens, not the government. Our government did a pretty good job in my opinion. Americans in general don't like people telling them what to do, and for the most part, I'm alright with that. Take the bad with the good. At the end of the day, the virus wasn't as bad as previously thought, and we are learning more about it every day.

To be fair, NZ has an inherent advantage. It is isolated, with no physical borders with other countries, has a small and generally educated population, less diversity and disunity in the population, and is less of a business and industry hub than other countries. Pitcairn Island might epitomize such a bubble.

The two week quarantine for those entering the country is what will ultimately keep them safe. China and others are learning that lesson the hard way. Such a two week wait can be more problematic in other countries. Once cases are tracked and isolated within NZ, there is the possibility of eradication in that country - provided... that an infected person can't have future flair-ups.

As an aside, I foresee a new industry of virtual tourism (in various forms), as the idea of skipping from country to country on a cruise or other tour no longer is allowed, at least in the near term. There are many other lessons to be learned for those with open minds.

Common sense, right? The L.A. Lakers the other day announced they were returning their CARES small business loan. If an organization like that is grabbing the money allocated to help those in group "F," what is the likelihood that a large percentage of the population is going to have common sense to do what you said above? Not nearly enough...

To be fair 30,000,000 jobless claims doesn't mean 30,000,000 people can't shelter, clothe, feed, and provide for their family. We've given stimulus checks, increased unemployment, and a number of other measures to get through this time. I don't want to act like everyone is fine but I don't see the urgency to rush and reopen everything because people "need to work".

You apparently still don't get it. The face coverings are to limit the spread from INFECTED people who don't realize that they are infected.

Reported figures are not fact. You also compare apples and oranges. I've been unemployed over half a dozen times. After the first time I learned to have an emergency fund and good credit and save for retirement. Only people who are alive can learn lessons like that. In short, if you are suggesting to kill people because of a failure of others to plan, your priorities are screwed up.

What continually blows me away are the nice new cars all forming lines so the drivers can get free food. Poor babies! Sorry, but 98% of those people have never experienced REAL hardship. I'd play my finger violin for those people if they wore masks in public and put pressure on those who were clueless so that the economy could open and the their jobs be restored. Until then, they can deal with the results of social irresponsibility.
