The newspaper of my youth is closing up shop.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — If you're a fan of the print edition of the Huntsville Times, you only have a few more months to hold it in your hands and read it. Alabama Media Group, which publishes Huntsville Times, Birmingham News, Mobile Press-Register and Mississippi Press, announced that it is moving to digital-only in February 2023.

I thought the Huntsville Times had already gone completely digital. Who knew?

Yeah, paper delivery is still going. Last time I checked, it was cheaper to buy a digital subscription that included a Sunday paper delivery than to buy a digital-only subscription. I have (for some reason) been a subscriber for many years, and the last few years they then have the nerve to want me to pay extra for the Thanksgiving edition (nope).

I guess that will put a bunch of carriers out of work!

That was about the time I dumped it altogether. The digital content wasn't being delivered until late in the day, when I had already read the news from other sources.

Just a note, these newspapers are not Alabama based but owned by Advance Publications out of New York. They also own Al.com which explains their Left Wing slant.

The Decatur Daily still publishes a print version, although they now only print Tuesday through Friday and Sunday.
It's amazingly expensive to have it delivered!!

In the early 1980's somebody that worked at the Huntsville Times said some of the older employees had a hard time learning how to transition to doing their jobs using computers. I wonder if anyone back then imagined how much things would change in the coming decades?
