Alot of people are moving into Huntsville because of jobs and a fair econmy in the area. Because people are new to the Huntsville area, where sould they live in Huntsville?

What areas should they live in, and what areas should they avoid?

If they have kids, then they should look at homes that are zoned to good schools.

If they don't have kids, then they should look at homes that are zoned to good schools.

It depends? How much of a house can you afford?

Show me the money!

Ok, well, in Huntsville what are the good schools?

How about, say, Columbia? Sparkman?

P.S. I live in a "bad area" - meaning the schools are reportedly sad and the local community is a varied mix of affluence...but the deer, land and hills are worth it. A proper education, however, will require an additional effort on my part.

That list seems a little out of date or incomplete or something (no Hampton Cove Elementary and no Hampton Cove Middle were on the list for example).

One good source is Greatschools.net. Using advanced search, you can download all the school data for all elementary, middle, and high schools within a 30 mile radius of an address. That is just about every school in Huntsville/Madison metro.

There is also Alabama Dept of Education data.

Yepper, was going to post that one later...though I find the school reviews as supplied by parents/students to get a bit...wacky. (I think it was that site. "My little Billy...")

D'oh...fiscal expenditures from 1998...OK, just a little bit out of date. Go instead with Charles, here: http://www.greatschools.net/city/Huntsville/AL
