Oh yeah, good point. I stand corrected. I wonder if or when they'll post the sustained wind reports.

But hang on... I didn't see anything that said winds would be of hurricane force. Strongest winds are always on the East side and that was over the water. I think everyone knew. Some folks misinterpret the warnings and forecasts though

The hurricane warning specifically even said and talked about gusts. Most of the warning was for the flooding and water surge. I didn't see any forecast with sustained winds of 74mph+, that would of been flat out lie. Nothing supported that.

Arthur is the earliest recorded hurricane to make landfall in NC.

Previous earliest: 7/11/1901 & 7/12/1996

Warmer than normal waters helping keep Arthur strong.

Satellite photo shortly before 1 PM shows Arthur still on track for passing south of Nantucket this evening

I thought the hurricane was supposed to curve past Virginia?

Nope. The track has been pretty much this since 5 days ago. Right after North Carolina a NE move

Very cool loop!! Notice the eye formed when it reached the Mid Atlantic.

Feels like October out there beginning of July! Only 64° with 20mph gusts from North. Brisk day

Current Map.

Arthur strong winds are 100+miles out there.
