Katrina made landfall at 125 MPH with a 12-14 foot storm surge as a Category 3. The rain was an average of 8-10 inches.

Gustav is predicted to make landfall at 115 MPH with a 8-10 foot storm surge with local surges up to 15 foot as a Category 3, with I believe about 10 inches of rain (predicted.)

See how similar these storms are?

It seems I recall seeing a weather special a few months ago that the experts determined that Katrina was actually [only] a Category 1 hurricane when it made landfall, not a Category 3 or 2.
