You might want to check the surrounding Twin Falls Area. The Boise area is great, but expanding quickly. How much you are willing to pay will probably determine the area. As for harsh weather Idaho is generally pretty boring. Sometimes we get some snow, but mostly in the mountains. On occasion a earthquake but a 2 or 3. Hope that helps

Boise probably has a wider variety of drugs, but in rural idaho there is a lot of meth, especially eastern idaho, I hope that didn;t sound like a sales pitch

I agree, drugs are rampant everywhere in every state and I'v seen it on all the state's forums, so don't let that change your view goldy. If you aren't involved in drugs then you probaby won't see it. Go West Young Woman!

I just researched meth labs that have been discovered and terminated and there seems to be a drastic decline in the past 5 or so years.
I also hear that not only are prisons in Idaho over populated, but 80% of the criminals in the prisons are addicted to meth. Are there any areas near prisons that seem to be "going downhill" because of this?

Not that I've heard of. To answer your question above, I live in SW Boise. Before you rule out this area keep in mind typically if there's a drug problem you will have a crime problem that follows. Boise was voted safest place in the country for 2006. Part of the criteria for earning that reward is a low crime rate. I don't think we would have received that recognition if there was a huge drug problem based on what I just said above. Please see below:
I work with social services and have law enforcement people who are near and dear to me. And the meth problem is out of control. The Criminal Justice Commission is attempting to come up with proactive solutions but it is nearly hopeless. It’s not just Idaho that has the problem. Did I say it is OUT OF CONTROL? Yes indeed.
