One of my daughters takes lessons in Sandpoint but lessons can be spotty at times (her instructor is awesome, but in very high demand). She's doing very well with jazz piano and theory, and with classical as well. I'd say she's a solid intermediate student.

Interesting if any of you have personal experience or feedback with any of the piano teachers that I'm finding listed in the area:

Theresa Hinrichsen (CDA)
Colleen M Hunter (CDA)
Ann Paul (CDA)
Debra Greagor O'dell (Hayden)
Michelle D Gutz-kleng (Hayden)
Marilynn A Snyder (Athol)

I'm not looking for jazz/theory instruction...just classical.

Anyone on CDF with experience with any of these listed teachers? Or do you have others to recommend?

My kids goto Susan Shipley in Post Falls. Excellent with kids. She's classically trained, but has a unique talent for teaching kids. Very affordable as well.

Hi, I am looking for a piano teacher in Sandpoint, ID area. Since you mentioned your daughter had been taking piano lessons from someone there, would you give me the name of the teacher(s) you know? Thank you!

Jon Brownell is the music teacher at Sandpoint HS. Truly gifted instructor. I think his private lesson schedule is probably full (it often is) but you can contact him through the school to inquire.

If your student is a beginner, you may want to call the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint-265-4444.

My experience isn't current, but when I was in high school, I did dual-enrollment music classes at NIC in the form of one-on-one instruction in piano and trumpet. I'm not sure if they still have that kind of offering, but it did wonders for my music skills and those credits actually transferred to my university, which gave me some extra breathing room in my electives.

I entered at an intermediate level in trumpet and advanced level piano, and I believe they had beginner courses as well. It's worth a look, anyway. And even if the instructors don't give one-on-one for dual enrollment anymore, they may do private lessons on the side.

I'm looking for a piano teacher who does NOT mostly do children.

It's not been my experience that a teacher can be good at both children and adults.
