I mentioned this in the Boise (sub)forum, however thought I'd bring it into the open for those traveling through Idaho and moving here as well.
When comparing gas prices, take notice that our ocatne ratings are 85, 87 and 91(?). I'm not 100% on the highest octane rating. Most areas I've traveled through; CA,NV hold higher values starting the regular unlead at 87.
To make the most of your trip and save money, know the rating your car/truck needs to run it's best when visiting or making the move to Idaho.

Actually the Treasure Valley (Boise area) doesn't sell 85 octane gas. I think that is only sold in places with an elevation above 3000'. From my experience, all of Eastern Idaho does sell the 85 octane. When I was recently in Arco, they were selling 85, 91, and 93.
That's why east Idahoans are getting doubly shafted. We pay about the same price for our "mid-grade" gas which is labeled "regular" elsewhere. Many cars won't even run on 85 octane at lower altitudes without knocking.
We have that same crap hear in Co. As elevation increases the octain requirment decreases, but it's not a good deal when elevation isn't stable, or even below 4000'. They are still scamming everyone. Lower octain should be lower price.
Sinclair stations in Pocatello sell higher octane at the same price. In Pocatello the one on E. Center near the Artic Circle is competitive in price. Their octanes are 88, 91 and 93, Everywhere else is like 85 87 89 or something. We are at 4500 feet in the valley.
Another myth, higher octane doesn't mean better. Just what your engine needs to prevent ping. Some cars will get better gas mileage on higher octane, but most it doesn't matter at all so check it out your yourself.
