Hi again everybody. Looking for advice once again. We are looking to install a wood stove and need it professionally installed to satisfy our insurance company. Have noticed that there are many wood stove stores around Sandpoint but was wondering if anybody has had any good or bad experiences with any of these.
Thanks for any info.

I know the best wood stove we ever had was a Blaze King.

Call All About Chimneys. Chris is wonderful. They only sell Kuma but they will install anything you want.

The inn keeper where we stayed had a JØtul (sp?) (he pronounced it "yo-dull") and said they were the best. Anyone else heard of them?

A friend in Maine has a Jotul if that is what you are talking about. Massive heat output.

Yes that's what I meant. I looked up their website and corrected my horrible butchering of their name.

Catalytic or non-catalytic?

Does anyone have fireplaces just for the ambiance? I know they're not efficient at all, thus the wood stoves. But to me there's nothing like the sound and smell of a fire, especially around Christmas.

OP, let me know if I'm hijacking too much and I'll start another thread.

It's all good. I know some stores that specialize in wood stoves can be very pricy, not only on stoves but also stove pipe and chimney components. We may check out a couple local stove stores for some pricing and estimates and compare that to buying a stove and components from someplace like Lowe's or Northern Tool and hiring somebody to do the install. Thanks Annie. That's what I'm talking about.

Last year I asked the same question and got a lot of terrific answers:

Fireplace or Stove?

We're going with a wood stove with a glass door, but we may actually do an insert (left). This thread is so useful--we're at a stage where we'll soon be ready to buy the stove!

About Jotul: The Norwegian pronunciation is actually Jøtul, sort of like "yaytool": Home | Jøtul

I don't know how hard they are to find(I got mine free from a customer who had me install a newer stove, just for hauling it off), but I have been heating with a Vestal stove for years, and it is awesome. We burn 2 cords of hardwood in a winter similar to NID, and our 1300 sq. ft. house stays too warm(75-85 degrees) for many. We shut the bedroom door and sleep with the window open most nights. And our house is not a very "tight" house. With a smaller or tighter house, it might be too much stove. But with a larger home or one that has a few drafts, it would be perfect. I love the ability to cook on it, and the fact that I use no electricity to heat the house. Comes in handy during power failures in these ice storms we get in the Ozarks. If you can find one, they generally sell inexpensively, too.
