I think it would be fairly easy to correlate the true number of illegals in this country by examining the factual legal immigration numbers.
It also might be interesting to know what the quota was from each nation (year by year) and then look at the true picture of what's going on in this country.
Maybe only then people will see the social and cultural shift happening in this country with regard to needing to speak a foreign language to get a job, the failing school systems nationwide, collapsing state infrastructure (power grid and other resources strain), and various states filing bankruptcy is a bigger phenomenon than people think it is.
Presumably, we wouldn't be in such a social and economic mess if we had a gradual population build up over 100 years, or at least added a population of people to our economy who gave more than they take from it.
