Widespread claims of beefed-up Border Patrol presence stokes fear among Valley's undocumented immigrants
SAN JUAN — The video showed actors portraying federal agents raiding a factory, looking for illegal immigrants.
The woman who told an agent she came to the U.S. illegally was arrested. The man who remained silent was not.
More than 100 people, many of them undocumented immigrants, gathered Friday night at the headquarters of La Union del Pueblo Entero — a San Juan-based immigrant advocacy group — to learn how to exercise their rights with authorities.
Immigrant advocates say the greatest threat to foreign nationals living in the region without proper documentation is federal authorities’ heightened patrols of colonias in the Mid-Valley.
“We are talking about these families that are so afraid,” said Martha Sanchez, a community organizer with LUPE. “Children are just being terrorized. We just want to be ready and know how we can help the community.”
Spokeswomen for U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement say there have been no changes in the way agents operate.
Regardless, the situation in recent weeks has created a widespread hysteria among undocumented immigrants who fear they could be detained by agents without notice.
“It’s because of the color of my skin,” one woman, who refused to give her name out of fear of arrest, said in Spanish

Ahh, if your in this country ILLEGALLY you have no rights
This just again proves that Obama has his agenda
right on track
Promoting the view that America is institutionally an oppressive nation
promoting open borders, mass immigration, and a watering down of current immigration laws
promoting a dramatic expansion of social welfare programs funded by ever-escalating taxes
promoting social welfare benefits and amnesty for illegal aliens
Colonias are basically, from USA's point of view, illegal subdivisions created by rural settlers and are found near the U.S. - Mexico border. The lack of clean water and proper plumbing infrastructure is due primarily to the fact that the settlements were established spontaneously without the approval or assistance of the proper government authorities. The population of a colonia will usually grow rapidly well before its infrastructure needs are realized by the closest established towns or government officials.
From Mexico's point of view, however, a Colonia is a regular division inside every city, meaning suburbs or fraccionamientos sometimes, aside from economic and sociocultural development. Every Mexican City is divided in different Colonias for administrative purposes and sometimes a Colonia belongs to a single Postal Code.
The Texas legislature has defined colonias as: a) subdivisions, b) lacking essential elements of infrastructure, and c) near the Mexico border
We should have policed these settlements from the start.

The problem with such enforcement in the Valley and other border cities is the conflict of interest in conjunction with the symbiotic relationship the United States and Mexico has in these regions.
Many legal citizens in these areas have relatives who are illegal. This causes politicians to avoid the illegal issue altogether. It's not good politics to deport grandma when her 7 grandchildren are all citizens. Furthermore, it being a poorer area, Austin tends to ignore the Valley.
The main issue with illegal immigration along the Valley and Laredo has and always will be politics. Austin doesn't want to deal with these areas. Now that the populace of America wants something done, the web has become rather tangled and the problem becomes Austin doesn't know how to deal with the Valley.
And one should not be given a free pass! because of one's color. Break the law, your color has nothing to do with it, break the law, you pay the crime. It amazes me that some people just come to expect so much from the U.S. period. And our Government has helped in this big freakin mess we are in, because something should of been done about this problem so long ago, neither, REPUBLICIANS NOR DEMOCRATS, have done their job on this issue. Let the freaking problem go, and we now face the problem we are facing, nice isn't it. Illegals in other Countries, cannot get away with the crap that illegals do in our Country. Not fair.

Uh... criminals are usually apprehended w/o notice. No sweetie... it's 'cause you're AN ILLEGAL ALIEN. An UNDOCUMENTED FOREIGN NATIONAL... A Federal felon IAW Title 8 USC §§ 1304. Go home... or face capture, legal action and deportation. Game over... No mas! Adios!
