Which bill is the reporter refering to? IL HB 116 or HB 466 have no provisions for "Amnesty".

Amnesty denotes granting of citizenship or natrualization.

No, “amnesty” denotes forgiveness for violating our laws. Amnesty is not synonymous with citizenship or naturalization. It simply means foreign interlopers will be absolved of their crimes, and granted legal immigration status.

So which bill provides for this?

Quote:
Amnesty for illegal immigrants is defined as a governmental pardon for violating policies related to immigration. Immigration amnesty would include the federal government forgiving individuals for using false documentation such as social security numbers, identification cards, and driver’s licenses, in order to gain employment in the U.S. and continue to remain in the country. Amnesty would allow illegal immigrants or undocumented aliens to gain permanent residency in the United States.

Permanent residency the person is allowed to reside indefinitely within a country of which he or she is not a citizen. Usually permanent residents may apply for citizenship by naturalsation after a period of residency in the country concerned.
Amnesty may not be synonymous with citizenship, but citizenship is an outcome of Amnesty...

Every case of amnesty does NOT result in citizenship. Nor does every amnestied person desire it. Otherwise, citizenship would be summarily granted with amnesty, which it is not. Amnesty simply legalizes the status of an illegal alien. Then, the illegal has the “option” of pursuing a “path” to citizenship. Comprende?

EDIT...Utah HB 116 and HB 466; not IL HB 116 or HB 466.

The Utah law “legalizes” the status of illegal aliens by granting employment eligibility. You do realize an illegal cannot legally work in this country, don’t you? Therefore, only through “amnesty” can their status be changed. After all, they will be forgiven for violating our immigration laws. Forgiveness/Pardon/Reprieve = Amnesty.

Note the words citizenship or naturalization are not included.

Maybe that's a good thing. They may then see the problem with uncontrolled immigration.

They don't care about amnesty or citizenship. All they want is a green card. $2500 fine is amnesty. They pay more than that to get here. And the fine may never get paid. What about the ones who do not quality for green card? Are they going to be rounded up and deported? I don't think so.
