the “legal workforce act” (h.r. 2164) would require businesses to use the new, still-being-developed federal e-verify system to ensure that new hires are either american citizens or legal immigrants. supporters of this intrusive legislation dubiously assert that it could “open up millions of jobs for unemployed americans and legal immigrants.” the bill, however, is hardly an innocent attempt to ensure that workers are in the country legally. in fact, it would help achieve a long-standing goal of many gop members of congress to create a national id.

well lets address the idea of a national ID card.
What makes it bad? I mean we all have a SSN# already. With that number they have the keys to our life already. I am not at all against a national id.
Also, if e-verify doesn't work well then why are the advocates for illegal aliens crying about it? Just like they say the fence won't work but they constantly cry a river over any attempts to build it. They can't use the excuse that it costs too much money because they sure don't mind spending our taxes for their social costs.

Nor am I, tinman. It is just a better form of I.D. to identify us and that means detecting illegal aliens a little easier. Can't have that now, can we?
People claim to get all worried about any form of a national id but the fact is we already have one. The SSN and its been in place for quite some time. Having a national photo ID hurts no one except those who commit ID theft or fraud. Gee no wonder those who support illegals and the crimes they commit seem to be bothered by the idea.
A non citizen can get a SS# for work and overstay their visa. I think we need some measure in place that tracks visa overstays & at the same time keep a system that allows only Americans to access public handouts, jobs, voting etc..
