Lewis, an assistant superintendent of an Arizona charter school chain and a former accountant, entered the race after Citizens for a Better Arizona, led by Democratic labor organizer Randy Parraz, turned in about 17,000 signatures in May to recall Pearce, arguably the state's most powerful politician. More than 10,000 were validated by county election officials. The group needed at least 7,756 to qualify for the ballot.

Recall backers argued that Pearce's focus on illegal immigration — he wrote the state's controversial immigration law known as SB 1070 and a host of others — has distracted him from the needs of his district and damaged the image of the state.

This comes as no surprise. There are far too many ethnocentric Hispanics and bleeding heart libs in Arizona and many other southwestern states who think their group should be above our laws. If this continues we will be a nation of lawlessness and more racism than we have ever seen before and this time around it won't be on the part of non-hispanic whites. The defeat of these immigration laws and advocates will just encourage more illegal immigraton. Enjoy your glee.

This is very pro illegal.

Its a sad day for Pearce but California is an perfect example if you have an open border. Arizona should look west at its future.

This is a sign that overtly racist ultra right wing politics is facing a serious backlash from independents and moderates. Just like in the past, the right wing gets a small taste of power and goes way too far. This is a huge victory for the people of Arizona and the US.

Illegal is not a "race".

This is a huge victory for the politicians and illegals of Arizona. It's a huge loss for the citizens and legal residents of Arizona.

Why are illegals fighting with citizens here?

It is indeed a loss for American citizens as our rights are slowly being eroded.
Fortunately the Governor agrees with Pearce.

Pearce's former district is probably the most "Conservative" of red Arizona, and the heaviest population of whites. Wasn't the process lawful or valid that had him removed? I don't understand how a notion of an "illegal alien agenda" is enough influence to do that.

Pearce was a politician himself...

How do illegal residents of that area overwhelm the lawful votes of a recall election?...

Pearce branded his political opponents as "far left liberals" and labor union activists and pro-illegal advocates. We certainly know that white people can fit either of the three catagories above. Guess they aren't as conservative as you thought.

I never implied that illegal aliens voted in this election either but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if they had.

I am sick of the propaganda that the right must be racists to oppose illegal immigration and to support the enforcement of our immigration laws. Call me crazy but I thought all Americans were supposed to honor our laws. It isn't only the right that opposes illegal immigration. Illegal isn't a race either.
