The Senate will debate a proposal this week billed by some as a creative solution to two of the nation's hot-button issues -- immigration and the Iraq war.
If passed, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act promises a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who volunteer for military service.
"If they'll serve in the military for two years, or they'll complete two years of college, we can put them on a path to legal status," said Sen. Richard Durbin D-Ill.
The DREAM act has bipartisan support. On the Republican side, it's one of the few war-related measures Sens. John McCain and Chuck Hagel agree on. And the Democratic sponsors include Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Don't be fooled by the late attempt. Our legislative staff (the best on Capitol Hill) has looked over the "DREAM Act 2.0" and determined that only two changes have been made:
(1) Sets age limit for amnesty. Now illegal aliens must be under 30 years old to qualify. However, there is still a "humanitarian" and "family unity" waiver that can be granted by DHS.
(2) Removes the in-state college tuition section. However, aliens who get the amnesty will become legal residents and therefore will be automatically eligible for in-state tuition anyway.
The DREAM Act is a Big Amnesty:
It’s estimated there are some 2 million illegal immigrant children in the United States. They are only a portion of the millions of aliens who will likely qualify for the DREAM Act amnesty, because the DREAM Act does not place a cap on the number of people who qualify, provides exceptions to the newly-formed under-30 age limit, and applies retroactively to anyone who first entered before age 16. Furthermore, the recipients of the DREAM Act amnesty will be permitted to petition for their illegal parents and adult relatives once they become citizens.
Needless to say, while these changes make the DREAM Act slightly "less-bad," as it were, DO NOT BE FOOLED: this is still an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens who then be able to turn around and petition for their parents who broke the law to bring them into the country in the first place.
They want to pay for them to go to college for 2 years, and then make them citizens? I'm thinking they should be paying for US citizen's to go to college if they want to do that. No way!!!!!!!
For the college thing, I am completely against it.
However, I believe it would be a good move to allow them citizenship for joining the military. They will learn what it is like to be an American, learn our language, and serve (possibly die) for our country. If anyone deserves to be a citizen, then the men and women who have upheld our constitution do.
No to the college part. That is ridiculous and offensive.

I agree, if you are willing to go serve our country man or woman, you deserve to be a citizen but I want the full four years not two.. No way to the college part!!
