Just an honest question, are there any statistics supporting the other side that you folks would trust?

"US Census says, 70% of Mexicans in California are U.S. citizens"

C'mon, we all know this is BS!

Even if it wasn't, 30% illegal mexican is serious enough to warrant immediate action by the American people.

Are they counting the illegals here? I would think they'd mean: that of the LEGAL Mexicans who came over the border, 70% have been granted citizenship, after taking the test, etc. The other 30% have not been "naturalized".

Of COURSE, the illegals are not citizens, so I figured they aren't even counting them.

If they are, that's just dumb.

So, all you Californians, do you think that among ALL the legals AND illegals, 70% are citizens? How many millions of legals do you have? Maybe it works out if there are "only" 12 million illegals, and lots more legals.

I think they're counting the number of Legal Americans from Mexican decent and the estimated number of illegals.

California stats:
Population, 2006 estimate 36,457,549
Persons of Hispanic or Latino origin, percent, 2005 (b) 35.2%
California QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

Hispanics in Cali (36,457,549*.352) : 12,791,642

That leaves 30% illegals (12,791,642*.30): 3,837,492

I would say that is a reasonable estimate and I have seen that estimate many times. So I think the claim is right 70% of Hispanic are legal. The census probably doesn't get every single person, but I have seen the estimate for CA Illegals to be around 3.5-4 million.

FAIR Estimate

FAIR’s estimate of the state’s illegal alien population as of 2007 is about 3,470,000 persons. This is part of an overall estimate of the U.S. illegal alien population of about 13 million persons.

This sounds reasonable--but what's the point?. There are illegal Irish and illegal Chinese in California, too, but why throw them in with "legal" Irish, or "legal" Chinese? Where is this going? What do legal American citizens have to do with illegals?

Good question macmeal, I think because many people believe California is 75% illegals or something.

30% illegal of any ethnic group is way too much---------and, a slap in the face of those individuals of said ethnicity who are legal let alone are US citizens.

Go to California, go from small business to small business and count with your fingers how many of these place(gas stations, convenient stores, mini marts, taxi cabs, liquor stores, ect) "are not"owned by"orientals and most likely run by illegals.(not all but most).

How many of you from California disagree?

From experience, I have never seen an Anglo taxi cab, mini-mart attendant, liqour store attendant. However, that does not mean they are illegal. We can't assume every immigrant is illegal. I'm starting to see people on this forum have problems with immigrants, primarily Latinos and how markets cater to Latinos. "Oh when are they going to learn to be like the rest of us," personally, I don't want to be like the rest of everyone. I have no problem watching Spanish commercials or reading Spanish flyers. It seems that people find more and more ways to complain about things and quite frankly the people that do this probably don't have the best of lives. I am not bothered by the fact that recent immigrants don't speak the language-- I can see why they don't.
