Welcome to the National Conference of Hispanic Legislators
The mission of NCHL is to advance our governing Jeffersonian principles of free markets, limited government, federalism, and individual liberty within the Hispanic/Latino community by developing and promoting policies that reflect and have as a foundation Jeffersonian conservative principles.
Jeffersonian Hispanic group

Interesting, very interesting

That is very interesting; at least they're saying "secure the borders first".

I'm sure that a lot of hispanics are ashamed of what the SOB illegals are doing, and, unfortunately, it does reflect on them, although it shouldn't.

These are American "hispanics" obviously. They wouldn't have that much in common with the Mexican "hispanics" who want big government and more government handout programs.

ATLANTA – Today, State Representative David Casas (GA), chairman of the National Conference of Hispanic Legislators (NCHL), issued the following statement regarding the Senate debate about immigration.

"The senate's reconsideration of immigration reform is a positive step towards addressing one of the most critical issues facing our nation today. As the debate unfolds, we must remember that our number one priority is to secure our border. The recent thwarted plot on our soldiers at Fort Dix is evidence that we still live in very dangerous times. It is in the best interest of the Hispanic community and of our country as a whole, to secure the homeland. Once our federal government secures the border, we can address the remaining challenges."

After the border is secured, they also want a pathway to qualified and law abiding illegal immigrants. You guys called the senate consideration of the immigration bill a nightmare, amesty, etc but they call it a POSITIVE step in the right direction. I am all for securing the border BUT also providing a pathway to citizenship for those who have been here a long time without a criminal record.

That 'recently thwarted plot' turned out to be a bunch of paintball players who were infiltrated by an opportunistic illegal alien government 'mole', and another FBI 'informant', who tried to get them to buy real guns instead of playing with paintball guns.

http://www.time.com/time/nation/arti...1609-1,00.html

As has been the case in so many of these 'terrorist plots', it's not so clear there's been any real danger that wasn't just cooked up to prop up excuses for the lack of any real progress catching any real terrorists.

There's plenty of scare stories published about all the 'terror' plots uncovered, ...but one can look in the back pages of the paper at a later date to see the 'results', or if one doesn't follow up on these 'stories', one might miss the fact that almost everytime the so called 'terrorists' are found not guilty, and the 'terrorist plot' turned out to be nothing of the sort.

Sure makes for some good theater though, props up that good old administration line that there's a terrorist in every closet.

I'll be impressed when this administration actually addresses terrorism, until then, a bunch of paintball players don't scare me too awful much.

This doesn't make ANY sense to me.

Illegals are attractive to employers because they're ILLEGAL, not in SPITE of their illegality.

Granting citizenship would mean a lot of previously-illegals would become less attractive to employers as citizens because suddenly they'll have to be paid, ya know, at LEAST minimum wage and will be subject to employment and labor standards.

What does that mean? It means MORE illegals will be attracted in because employers will again claim "No Americans to do the job." Even though all the new Americans were doing a fine job when they were "Illegals."

It's a never-ending cycle and PRECISELY why "Amnesty does NOT make sense!"
