Cruz cannot be trusted. All we need to do is what we used to do and follow the law. He thinks he is so smart double-talking everyone.

Cruz rules out 'deportation force' to boot undocumented immigrants - CNNPolitics.com E-verify is not enough to do the job since so many work under the table. Right now, law enforcement knows where many of these illegals are. The schools know and the hospitals know. Will it be a crime for them to withhold that information.

When mama shows up to get a birth certificate for her anchor baby, is a call going to be made to have her picked up?

If this enforcement against those already here illegally is just ho-hum, things will not change. No job? They just go to charities or resort to stealing including identities. I'm not so sure from reading about e-verify that they can easily pickup identity thief: http://www.uscis.gov/news/new-securi...employee-fraud

E-verify will put a big dent in it though. Many employers won't take the chance and pay them under the table. If we couple that with ending birthright citizenship for their kids then we'd be talking.

Add in allowing the cops to take in ANY known illegal alien if "contacted" for ANY reason where photo ID is needed. Word WILL get out and fast in the illegal alien hoods and, they'll start leaving and fast.

Cruz is just trying to pander for votes. He is clueless, especially the part where he said we don't go after anyone for any crime like that. I guess he forgot about the Boston bomber where they raided all kinds of homes and went door to door. There are countless examples of LE knocking on doors and kicking them in looking for people. ICE used to do it all the damn time. They would raid known illegal hangouts and homes.

You are aware, aren't you, that Ted Cruz is a "brilliant"* attorney, and has argued before the Supreme Court?

*As described by one of his former law professors.

Yeah I heard it, but what he said here was not very brilliant and makes it seem that he is ignorant about how LE and ICE regularly functions.

E verify won't make a big dent because it is currently illegal in California for an employer to use e-verify as part of a hiring process. The state and especially Gov Brown know that this is in contradiction to federal law but until someone in the fed gov does something to stop it, employers are stuck.

I just DON'T get it how a person following Federal law would be in trouble under Calif "law" since the Feds WON'T allow states like Arizona and so on to ENFORCE Federal law against illegal aliens.

If we are being told that illegal immigration is a federal not a state issue then the Feds need to mandate e-verify for every state. Yes, Calif. is in contradiction to federal law then by making their own rules for illegal aliens and aiding and abetting them.

Our local McDonald's here in Calif. has a "we use e-verify" sign on their counter so what's up with that then?

I would normally say that it was cynical and unfair to always expect an immigrant or the son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter of an immigrant to want what amounts to amnesty and open borders, or excessive legal immigration when we don't have enough jobs for Americans.

I would say it was cynical, because why should we assume that immigrants and their near descendants would have so little respect for the American people and their well-being?

Well, apparently their ethnic roots (or their marriages to immigrants and other such family connections) come before everything else -- whether we're talking about Cruz, Rubio, the Bushes, the Kennedys, or any number of Irish Catholics with long-held grudges over the fact that America was founded by WASPs and they weren't allowed to "start at the top."

The one non-Anglo-Germanic-Nordic group I can think of that has never had this attitude is Italians.
