I think Mexico actually enforces their immigration laws. We apparently aren't allowed to do that.

They'd have no permanent address in their birth country, no bank account to show the required funds in their birth country, no immediate family in their birth country, no history of residence in their birth country, etc. All requirements for getting approved for a student visa.

I know this for a fact because as a school counselor I had students who attempted to do this very thing and were not able to get student visas to attend college in the U.S.

I also had many students who tried every avenue possible to get legal status so they could get a green card, but that takes many years.

I had undocumented students who tried to be accepted to the U.S. military, in order to qualify for citizenship down the road, but no dice.

Based on my experiences working with undocumented students as a school counselor, here is what I would propose:

-- Give students who came here before age 16 the opportunity to do two years of service to America. This could include military service or a volunteer service program like City Corps. If they do two years of service, they get a clear cut path citizenship.

-- Alternately, give students who get college degrees in high need service areas -- like medicine, nursing, teaching, mental health workers, or STEM fields etc. -- a clear cut path to citizenship.

I can guarantee you that the vast majority of these students would welcome these opportunities.
I got this from a link:

To apply for permanent residency, undocumented students must first leave the country and apply from a foreign consulate. Current law requires that if a person has been in the U.S. without documentation for more than six months after their 18th birthday, they will be banned from returning to the U.S. for three to ten years. This individual would also become ineligible for a green card as soon as they’ve left the country.

College Guide for Undocumented Students - Best Colleges

Before DACA, there was a so-called DREAMer who returned to her home country to get a foreign student visa. She almost wasn't allowed back because she waited too long to return. She appealed and was allowed back in so she could attend college as a foreign student---which is what DACAs are.

As for having no permanent address in their home country, that is easily rectified. They can live with a relative for a while as they apply for college and a foreign student visa.

When there is a will there is a way when regarding obeying the laws in this case. No one ever said it would be easy.

We, as a nation, owe illegal aliens absolutely nothing. Period.

If you and/or your family members were in the position of these lawbreakers, what would your view on this be?

This question isn't addressed to you in particular, for what it's worth.

Neither myself nor any of my immediate family would violate another nation's immigration laws in the first place so in my case the question is moot.

As it would be in our case with our family also. I know that if I break the law and am caught that I will suffer the consequences. Do I think I am so "special" that I shouldn't have to? I could only wish that I were!

If I wasn't in a "lawful" state of being, I would certainly not be dumb enough to give my name and address to the government, not our government or any other one.

Also, we aren't the type that say because "family or friends" broke the law that the law is wrong, the law is the law.

If we jaywalk and get caught we get a ticket. If one violates our immigration laws and gets caught they are deported. The punishment fits the crime. I know where you are going with this. You are making the claim that many pro-illegals do. That is if any American breaks the law that makes our immigration laws null and void. Its a silly argument that holds no water. Many Americans want our immigration laws enforced and they don't break any laws.

No one in my family would ever violate immigration laws in another country. I could never live illegally in a country, my conscience would bother me too much to do such a thing.

IF I was an illegal alien; I'd def be keeping my mouth shut AND stay away from CDF and so on. If I got caught, sucks to be me. I don't know about you, but I sure as hell DON'T wanna be cuffed and stuffed for a crime.
