A staffing service fired about 75 employees this week because they walked out of the Arvato Digital Services plant after word spread about an immigration raid at a nearby factory.
We terminated those employees for walking out of the plant,” said Bobby Walker, chief financial officer of Shelby-based Employment Staffing Inc., which provides employees for Arvato, formerly Sonopress. “We don’t know why they walked, but it’s our policy that if you walk off the job and out of the plant, you’re not eligible for rehiring.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Tuesday raided the Mills Manufacturing plant in Woodfin, arresting 57 Hispanic workers they say used fraudulent documents to get hired.
Andy Meltzer, a public relations consultant for Arvato, said that when word spread of the raid, some employees left. He noted that some left because of possible child care issues or because they had relatives at Mills. Arvato has 1,197 full-time and temporary workers. Walker said ESI hires workers for jobs that pay $7-$12 an hour.

Walker said ESI has used the federal E-Verify system since January to ensure that applicants are who they claim to be. ESI also follows federal regulations that require all employees to fill out an I-9 form, which requires a passport or permanent residence card, or “green card”; or two forms of identification, such as a driver’s license and Social Security card.

Good for ESI. So much for our alleged need of illegal aliens. I'm sure Americans would be an excellent replacement.

This needs a little clarification, JDubsMom . . .

These GOONS, legal or otherwise, feel they have the right to WALK OFF THE JOB merely because their employer allows an Agency of the Federal Government to enter the building and verify the immigration status of some or all employees?

If they had nothing to hide . . . WHY?

Otherwise . . . GOOD RIDDANCE!

Because they believe the unmitigated hype that we need them. Good riddance is right. With the economy tanking, and the unemployment rate rising, there are plenty of Americans who will do the jobs that illegal aliens and their raza supporters don't want to do.

Rally to support arrested workers | CITIZEN-TIMES.com | Asheville Citizen-Times

You can always tell propaganda because you have to weed through it to get at the facts :

Cordova woman was in country legally (daughter of legal immigrant).
Cordova woman holds dual-citizenship, here and Equador.
Aunt and Uncle were here illegally.
Aunt employed illegally.
Aunt arrested.
Aunt released to family.

Cordova woman said :
". . the experience left a mark on her family and many others"
". . People are panicking because they’re not sure if they go out, they’ll be safe. Or if they go out, they’ll never come back"
". . her family thinks law enforcement should crack down on people who enter the country illegally and commit crimes. "

Just not here, everywhere else right?

Local Pastor (Hispanic supporter) said :
". . I think it’s been the week that I have grieved more for America, for my country that I love, than ever in my whole life"

I've had lots of weeks Pastor, get a real job . . "than ever in my whole life?" Yeesh, and study prose. Drama queen.

Protest march (student at UNC Asheville) said :
". . We just want them to know that there are people who don’t feel the immigration raids are something that are welcome here in Asheville”
". . There are no aliens here"
". . These are individual people with stories, and they deserve a chance."

Error.

Somebody please come up with vaccine for this plague of stupidity, political correctness.

Are you kidding me? He has grieved more over this than over REAL tragedy. What about the 3,000 innocent people just going to work murdered by terrorists on 9/11. What about our boys and girls killed in Iraq and Afghanastan? I don't know his age but what about the horrors and deaths in the Civil Rights movement? What is wrong with these people?

Historically, once illegals gain acceptance in a community, 1000's more come. And these are not educated "Floridians" with money; they are poor and uneducated with high social demands.
Man ain't that the truth

*Crickets*?, I don't think so. Even Stevie Wonder could see that I was only on this board for a short period of time yesterday.

Oh and BTW, you really need to come up with your own catch phrases, I am not flattered by your constant parroting.

That being said, since you were sitting around all day waiting with baited breath for my return here's my answer:

I'd rather see Somali LEGAL immigrants, working in those plants than a bunch of illegal alien non-English speaking illiterate peasants from SOB.

I hope it was worth the wait.

JDubs: Thanx for a great post. And I agree - there are plenty of citizens here needing jobs. The unemployment rate is going up.

As for the workers who got canned - wonderful! They dummied up documents. Just goes to show how effective the government's E-Verify system is. I have heard the system is a dud.
