Tallahasse, Florida -- There are between 12 and 20 million illegal aliens in the United States. No one has a hard number on how many illegal's are in the country but the Florida Hospital Association says the cost to hospital is staggering and everyone is paying for it.
Illegal aliens come into this country every day. In fact, more than one million live in Florida.
The influx of illegals has a devastating affect on hospitals through out the state, including Tampa bay. Carol Plato, who testified before a legislative committee, says the Florida Hospital Association estimates the cost is $100 million for illegal patient care.
And part of the reason the cost is so high, is because illegal aliens often use the emergency room as their primary care physician. Usually illegal's don't have insurance and very little money, which means they can pay the bill. However, that doesn't mean the bill isn't paid. Those who have insurance pick up the difference and that's a major reason things are so expensive when you're in the hospital.

Hey Americans, have you had enough yet?
Wait till the swine flu hits that state. They have seen nothing yet.

Agreed. I wonder what Janet and the rest of the amnesty supporting idiots in Washington will say when Americans start dropping dead from a 3rd world born version of pig flu.

Actually, it is probably what they want in the first place. I mean, it is much easier to control peasants with little to no education you know.
they cost hospitals nothing the hospitals got paid they are fine, its the grandchildren of current taxpayers that are guna pay big time.
you know the part in the bible where people sold their kids to pay their debt
its comin
Florida is not the only place that has this problem. It is not widely known because the companies don't want you to know you are paying part of their employee's salary. Isn't it interesting that we can afford to pay for the medical care of these illegals, but there is talk of taking away medical care and social security from our senior citizens. If we allow this to happen to us it is no one's fault but ours. Tea party here I come.

If that were to happen then a tea party is the least of the government's worries. Then it would definitely be time for an all out revolution and doing whatever is necessary to get our country back.

Well, not exactly ... I worked just on the south rim of Tampa Bay at a decent sized hospital; they had true operating losses; purely related to illegal immigrant visits. Doctors who were well qualified often stop taking call and then entire specialties that require coverage end up having no coverage. So when you end up in the ED, at what you consider to be a major hospital and there is no gastroenterologist, no plastic surgery, no orthopedics, no ENT -- and you have an urgent problem .. regardless of your health insurance status you get hurt.
This is far from a game; doctors are changing what they are willing to do and the coverage they are willing to offer to hospitals as a result. Yes, it is driving up costs for insured people, diminishing services, diminishing quality of care offered and affecting the wait times to be seen for folks who are well insured.
It's not just a doctor or hospital problem -- it is everyone's problem. When your spouse goes into the ED with a GI bleed and exsanguinates despite the ED doctor doing their best because no surgeon was available and no gastroenterologist was available. .. it all appears a bit shallow to look at this as just an economic issue.
I'm really unhappy with specialists stopping their coverage at many ED's -- but it is an economic issue and a quality of life issue. When they see that 50% of their cases in some facilities go unfunded -- it's really easy to justify just doing an office practice and doing all your surgeries and procedures at an outpatient surgery center and making your own hours and schedule.
This is an economic issue for some; but a complete quality of the societal medical care issue for everyone.
