How about simulating the pain and suffering experienced by U.S. citizens due to illegal immigration. Oh, that’s right. . . that would be racist.

Quote:
CHARLOTTE -- Nearly two dozen residents, including mayoral candidate Anthony Foxx, participated in a pilot event Thursday night designed to simulate the illegal immigrant experience.

The role-playing event, conducted at the Quaker Meeting House in North Charlotte, seeks to give non-Latinos a better understanding of why rural Mexicans migrate to the United States and the challenges they face here.

Denise Alvarez, an English-as-second-language teacher, played a coyote capitalizing on the desperation of poor campesinos.

Bob Morgan, 39, a Charlotte graphic designer, played the role of a bean picker who felt forced to cross the border illegally to support his family.

"It's one thing to hear something on a news report," he said. "It's another to try and experience what these people are going through to get here."

Lori Fernald Khamala, director of the N.C. immigrant rights program at the American Friends Service Committee, hosted the event. She said the goal is to bring the program to other churches, schools and other organizations.

"The way the simulation is set up, you see that people really have to want to get here," he said. "People on all sides of this issue should be willing to see it from this perspective."

So what?
Next week will they do a role playing excercise to show the desperation of people in the Sudan who want to immigrate to the US? How about women in Afghanistan or Iran or Saudi Arabia...I bet that there are compelling stories on why they would love the chance to experience freedom.

There are people all around the globe in worst straits then Mexian farm laborers yet the emphasis in the US is only place on excusing the illegality of mexican farm laborers sneaking into the US. Why is that? If I were going to agree with allowing an unlimited amount of immigrants in from one particular country, there are several more deserving then Mexico.

The Observer is so blatantly pro illegal it makes me want to vomit. They conveniently leave out the part that 80% of Americans don't want these illegals or the part where they get rounded up by ICE and deported back to where they came from. The words 'these illegals aliens are illegally breaking in and violating US immigration laws' are carefully never mentioned. Sales are way down at the Observer. Hurry up and go broke. I canceled my subscription 3 years ago.
