The Director of Mexico's Federal Migration Institute says she's pleased President Barack Obama favors good policy over short term politics on the issue of immigration reform. As KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson explains, Cecilia Romero made the comments during a talk at the Institute of the Americas in La Jolla.

Cecilia Romero says it is important President Obama is prioritizing the long term view on immigration rather than making quick decisions that could be ineffective.

President Obama says reforming immigration will take heavy lifting.

Romero says she expects Mexican officials will share their input as the process progresses.

"I'm not the one to say, but I would like to see family reunification."

I would also like to see family reunification. . . . in Mexico.

Of course. I'm sure that the families back home are waiting for their returns.

Do they think we are stupid? Of course Mexicos version of a United States immigration reform would be to allow anyone of Mexican descent full citiznship the minute they cross the border.

Odd that they have an entirely different perspective when it comes to their own immigration policy.

Their ultimate goal is to turn the U.S. into a Hispanic country where they have numerical and political control. Our sucker politicans are too stupid to get it.

With Mexico's plunging birthrate: such a plan will backfire very badly against Mexico.

That nation has just over 1/3rd of the population of the USA but a mere 10% of our economic power.

If anything: Mexico should be worried about the USA 'finishing' the job left undone back in 1848.

Remember: NAU is probably another name for Manifest Destiny.
