Once at the center of controversy, day laborers have become increasingly scarce as residents make fewer complaints about them and their numbers dwindle.

Experts, leaders and laborers credit the changes to the slow economy, which has meant lower wages and less consistent work for day laborers. Some also attribute the decline to intimidation from anti-(illegal) immigrant activism and legislation, leading many to leave the state in search of more promising markets.
Slow economy spells little work for day laborers

The less of those meaningless, deplorable and illegal criminals the better.

Day laborers' top occupations were construction laborer, landscaper, painter, roofer and dry-wall installer.

All jobs Americans won't do?

Most likely due to the reduced wages paid for
cheap slave labor

^^ Ditto!

What is it like to have day laborers? While I've seen it on TV, in Western PA it is a totally foreign idea which is never seen.

Good point. Two years ago there were about 50 in the lot down the road, today about 9. If they haven't left what are they doing to stay here? I'm thinking social services is playing a bigger part than most think.

The mostly illegal alien Latino day laborers are disappearing around here (Phx area) going by the huge numbers of empty apartments in the barrios along with far fewer of 'em on the streets trying to solicit work.

They have this here for all the illegals to go to to find day work. Told you this was a Sanctuary City.

City of Austin - Austin City Connection

That is just one of 5 places like that here for illegals to do day labor.
