This should be done everywhere. It's about time!!!!!!!This country needs to start enforcing it's immigration laws and SLAM Big Business,Landscaping Companies,Agri- Business,Construction and every other industry with heavy fines.
One less place for me to shop at. I never thought Target would hire people who were illegal.
It seems to vary from store to store. At my local Target I have never seen an employee who made me think "illegal alien." There are some foreign workers there, mainly in the pharmacy, but their English is superior and you cannot even become a pharmacy tech without post-secondary education so they are educated as well. I would be shocked if any of them were illegal.
At other Targets in DFW...hmm...I have my doubts about some of the cashiers, let's put it that way.
the article says that someone tipped them off that some of the workers were working there illegally. it also said that this particular store was not registered for e-verify whereas other target stores are. why didn't this store just register for e-verify first? it seems heavy handed to only question the "latino" ppl and not all of the employees. the proper way to do it would have been to require EVERYBODY to do it. I thought that target stores were smarter than this, this seems like something that wal-mart would do.
Apparently the "no English" was the kicker. I doubt anyone working the day shift fit that as they would be interacting with customers.

This is happening in alot of places, believe me. It just isn't making news headlines every time a company does it.
if so, that sounds like racial profiling, er i mean, biased enforcement.
kinda fishy.
but the law is the law. e verify works!

If the workers in question were speaking English; that would be one thing. However; speaking especially Spanish these days is probable cause to investigate further.

It is difficult to say exactly how it went down but from what I understand from the article, store officials received an allegation that there were undocumented workers at that location on the overnight shift. I'm assuming they checked their 4 points of identification with the Social Security Administration and that a large number of the employees didn't pass that, or there was something wrong with their I9 form. The ones who weren't found to be a match were then communicated that they found something wrong with their ID information and that they had "x" number of days to update/correct their information or there employment with the company would end. 40 or so were unable to reverify their ID information so their employment with the company ended. It didn't say either way, but I kind of doubt they conducted the investigation in a way that could be seen as racial profiling. Target is far too large of a company to take a stupid risk such as that and expose them to litigation, DOL fines, etc.
