Hi , We are from the UK and here if you rent a property you pay the council tax which is similar to the US property tax. My question is whether this is the same in the US, if i rent a house will i also pay the property tax or does the owner pay this?

You only pay real estate tax when you own the house.

Property tax is paid by the owner. Naturally it can effect your rate of rent just like any other expense, but you are not directly responsible for any expenses related to the rental unit besides rent, utilities, and damage caused by negligence (or malice).

You can bet that the home owner is making sure the rent is high enough that it covers the taxes also.
